Cambridge o Aptis? The decision.
I have a friend. Well, I have more than one friend but… ok, you know what I mean.The thing is that he needs to certify his English level: he wants to take the exams to access public teacher positions in Spain (aka, oposiciones de educación).
The exams take place by June every year in Spain.
In those exams. you get points if you submit (entregar, presentar) an official language certificate that states (atestigua) that you have an UPPER INTERMEDIATE (B2) or ADVANCED (C1, C2) level of any language.
And so, my friend wants to boost his mark (aumentar su nota) with an English certificate.
The thing is that currently, there are a variety of tests available to those English students who wish to certify their knowledge of the language.
So which one to choose? That is the question.
When I had my little English School I got asked (me preguntaban) that question a lot.
Even today, when people contact me for classes I need to ask a few questions before we decide what to prepare.

EXAMENES QUE PUEDES HACER PARA ACREDITAR TU INGLÉS (al menos, en España)
CAMBRIGE: varios tipos de examen (y son más caros que APTIS)
CAMBRIDGE Qualifications (te presentas al nivel que quieres acreditar).
LOS EXÁMENES CLÁSICOS en lo que debes alcanzar el nivel al que te presentas para que te den el título: (FIRST para intermedio alto-B2, y ADVANCED, avanzado-C1) .
Hay versión por ordenador, pero si eres más de analógico, siguen haciendo convocatorias de examen en papel.
Son para ti si…
- quieres presentar un título de prestigio internacional que suele ayudar a quién lo tiene en procesos de selección;
- tienes muy claro qué nivel tienes (no suspendas que pagas más de lo que debes por el mismo título, y no hay recuperación de ningún tipo);
- te gusta el inglés lo suficiente para utilizarlo más allá de la clase (música, leer…), que según mi experiencia, es lo único que garantiza el éxito con Cambridge;
- TAMBIÉN tiene versión BUSINESS y para SCHOOLS.

LINGUASKILLS (multinivel).
Aquí te presentas a un ÚNICO EXAMEN (solo en versión ordenador); el software va adaptando el test para averiguar cuál es tu nivel. No se aprueba ni se suspende; solo se averigua el nivel. Pero NO es más fácil que la versión por niveles.
Es para ti si…
- no tienes muy claro tu nivel y no quieres pagar de más arriesgándote a suspender un examen de nivel específico.
- quieres tener la posibilidad de subir nota y volver a hacer el examen solo para las partes que tengas más flojas (por ejemplo, volver a hacer el SPEAKING porque te bajó mucho la nota) dentro de los tres meses siguientes a la fecha de examen.
- lo mismo de antes: esto es Cambridge, así que si quieres asegurarte de que llegas al nivel, más te vale meter el inglés en tu vida, pequeñ@ saltamontes.
- necesitas los resultados muy rápido (en cuestión de días)

IELTS. Suele ir enfocado a acreditar a profesionales y tiene un perfil más técnico (en el WRITING te piden que expliques una gráfica, por ejemplo). Este solo lo he preparado un par de veces y ya no lo preparo, y de lo que no sé, no hablo.
Pero ve a seguir a Emma del canal de Youtube ‘Pronunciation with Emma’, que ella sí que lo prepara.

APTIS: el examen del British Council que les cayó del cielo a los opositores.
Solo hay versión por ordenador y es multinivel (aunque hay varios tipos: general, advanced, for teachers…)
¡Sí! Aptis es mucho más accesible (he visto gente aprobar con nota el B2-Intermedio alto- de Aptis, después de haber suspendido 3 veces el mismo nivel de Cambridge.)
Es para ti si…
- el inglés es un trámite, un escollo que salvar, y además no te gusta.
- no lo vas a necesitar después, o al menos no con fluidez o confianza.
- tienes prisa y no puedes prepararte con seguridad para ir a por Cambridge y aprobar.
- estás seguro de que la institución a la que lo presentarás lo acepta como requisito (que no te lo echen para atrás por no se de Cambridge).

OTROS EXÁMENES
Hay otros exámenes (Escuelas Oficiales de Idiomas -en España-, ANGLIA, Oxford, etc…), pero como no los preparo, me callo.
